Our Actions

Whilst we are running online meetings, we wanted to clarify some of the steps we’re taking to keep our young people safe.

1. All our online meetings have a unique meeting ID and are password protected. We ask that both the ID and password are never shared outside 51st Bath.
2. We will always only start meetings when two adult volunteers are on the call first. We will never have a young person alone with an adult on a video call, just like real life.
3. We make use of the “Waiting Room” feature to actively allow people into our meetings. We ask that parents/young people use their real names, and we will only allow people to join whom we recognise.
4. We make use of the relevant security settings, to ensure that only leaders can share their screens.
5. We will “lock” meetings after 10mins has elapsed, or everyone has joined, whichever comes first – so no-one else can enter.

Rules of Our Virtual Meetings

Before the call:

1. Make sure a parent/adult is in the same room as you (they don’t have to be on camera!) and knows what you’re doing.
2. Check what’s around you. Make sure it’s all something you’re happy for people to see. (No-one wants to see your pants and socks hanging in the background!).
3. Wear your uniform (it’s a Scout event, after all!).
4. Use your real name when you log-in, otherwise we won’t know it’s you and won’t be able to let you join.

During the call:

1. Under no circumstances do or say something you wouldn’t do or say on a normal Beavers/Cubs/Scouts night.
2. Backgrounds must be kept appropriate at all times.
3. Always make sure there’s at least three people, including one adult, on the call. If there isn’t, then leave.
4. Be respectful and pay attention. The person talking can still see you and we can tell if you’re looking elsewhere or focusing on something else.

After the call:

1. If there was something you didn’t understand, or that worried you, speak to your parents/adult you live with first and if they need to, they can always contact a leader.

If you fail to follow these rules, we may decide to turn off your camera, mute you, or remove you from the meeting.
