Our Management

51st Bath Scouts is run and managed exclusively by volunteers. Running our adventures isn’t as easy as deciding one moment and doing the next. We need to comply with policy and the law to make sure all our adventures are safe and fun for all involved.

Group Leadership Team

Group Lead Volunteer

Ashley Russell

Ashley is responsible for all the day-to-day management of the Scout Group, including leading our team of adult volunteers. He joined 51st Bath in 2014 as an Assistant Scout Leader, when we were just a Scout Troop. In 2015, he became our Group Lead Volunteer (then Group Scout Leader). He has since led our expansion into a Scout Group with thriving Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections and to be the biggest we’ve been in over 15 years!

Ashley has a passion for giving young people new experiences and skills for life. During his own Scout adventures, he has been on hundreds of nights away, including in six countries other than the UK. He is a proud holder of both the Queen Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Between 2014 and 2020, Ashley was a Trustee of The Scout Association (the national charity overseeing Scouts in the United Kingdom). He participated in several committees and steering groups, including chairing the HQ Appointments Committee and the Three Counties (Funded) Project Steering Group.

Group Board of Trustees

Our Board of Trustees oversee all we do. They hold specific responsibility for approving budgets or out-of-budget expenditure, approving and reviewing our policies, ensuring we’re properly insured and compliant with relevant legislation.
