The 51st Bath Cubs and Beavers had a real treat recently when they became the first group ever to get a behind-the scenes tour of Bath Spa Station.
Led by station manager Pete (and Heather and Mike), the cubs and beavers were shown around the station, including areas off-limits to everyday passengers. They got up close to WWII bomb damage, walked through some of the Victorian-era tunnels under the lines and looked inside a modern-day staff room.
They also gave some very patient, kind and understanding passengers a surprise when they took over the ticket office to sell some tickets.
51st Bath Scouts’ Group Scout Leader Ashley Russell said: “They loved being able to issue some tickets from the booths, get their feet wet in the dark, old tunnels, hear about how fast the trains go and how far away they have to brake to stop.”
Thanks to the team at GWR Bath Spa team for getting on board with the idea of a behind-the-scenes tour when one of our parent volunteers (and a regular commuter) suggested the idea.
